Piper in the Highlands Piper in the Highlands

Scotland

In 1998 I travelled Scotland by bike. From this exhausting but wonderful trip I brought the following pictures. If you click on the small pictures you will get to a larger version. The piper you can see on the picture in the titel was piping on a parking area/viewing point in the Glen Coe!

Castle of Linlithgow

Castle of Linlithgow

Linlithgow is a small and very nice town close to Edinburgh. You can visit the ruin of a castle there which gives a quite good impression of the way of life at that time. The castle is situated at a lake where you can sit and relax very well.

River at Callander

At Callander

In the village of Callander you can start a very nice trip by bike. This wonderful river I found on this trip close to Callander.

Scottttish weathhhhhher

Mystique fogs?

I guess that is the way most people imagine Scotland. But these are not mystique fogs. It's only rain that obstructs sight. But I like this special atmosphere of this rainy weather. But it is not very amusing travelling by bike then.

Eilean Donan Castle

Eilean Donan Castle

This picture also shows Eilean Donan castle which had already been picture of the month before. But this one was taken inside the castle.

Scotlands hills

On the way to Invarmoriston

During a break on our trip to Invarmoriston (Loch Ness) I took this picture to proof that the landscape was very hilly again. Who made me wanting to travel by bike in this country???? I must have been totally nuts to agree!

Where is Nessie?

Loch Ness

Here you can see the notorius Loch Ness! The campsite lies directly at the shore of it. But I have slept very well anyway. I guess I have been too tired to be frightened. I did not see Nessie. Do you see anything??

Loch Linnhe

Glen Coe Village

This view on "Loch Linnhe" you may have if you stay on the campsite which is located close to Glen Coe Village. You may smell the salty water but it depends on the direction of the wind.

River Coe

River Coe

The water of the "River Coe" which runs through the Glen Coe comes from lots of waterfalls around. The street follows it's way through the glen down to the village.

more scenery

on the way from Fort Williams to Mallaig

You can travel from Fort Williams to Mallaig by steamtrain twice a day. In Mallaig you may take the ferry to Skye. On this trip by train you may see quite a lot of Scotlands beautiful scenery.

view from the isle of skye

Isle of Skye

As soon as you arrive at the isle of skye you will have this beautiful view to the mainland. When the weather is fine it wonderful to sit there in the grass and watch the traffic on the water.
