The following pictures I have taken during my stay in NZ in November and December 2000. If you click on the small pics you will get a bigger version. The picture at the top shows the skytower in Auckland.
Skyline of Auckland at sunset
This picture I took from Devonport, one of Aucklands suburbs, with its majestic skytower. It is one of my very favourite pictures.
Lonesome island in the Bay of Islands
In the Bay of islands you can find hundreds of tiny lonesome islands. At sunshine it is perfect for recreation and enjoying the loneliness. Who wants to doubt it looking at this picture?
Cape Reinga
Cape Reinga is nearly the most northern place of NZ and its lighthouse is a well-known attraction for tourists. As you can guess I have been there as well. *grins* And I can tell you it is a very photogenic place.
How far is it to Germany?
I think one of the most taken pictures at Cape Reinga is this pathfinder. No wonder as you can see how far you are from home and proof it to all those at home.
Coromandel Peninsula
On my way to Coromandel peninsula by bus I just wanted to take a picture of the passing landscape. With this view and some nice music you don't want to leave the bus anymore.
Hells Gate
Rotorua is situated in a big geothermal area which you can not forget because of the smell of sulphur everywhere. That's the reason for its nickname: hells gate. But it does not only smell but it hisses everywhere and you can watch the mud holes for hours.
Abel Tasman Nationalpark
In the north of the South Island you will find this beautiful national park where you can go for wonderful walks. If you take the water-taxi and go back to Matarau you will have this amazing view at the end of your walk.
Pancake rocks
At the west coast of the South Island you can visit the pancake rocks which consist of sandstone which was washed out by rain and the sea. So they got the shape of pancakes placed on each other. At flood-tide the sea is pressed through blow-holes and you can take pictures of this natural water fountains.
Milford Sound
On the Milford Sound which is said to be the most beautiful sound in New Zealand you can cruise with boats and enjoy the beauty of the many waterfalls. Especially if it has rained shortly before you start. This is really amazing if you see another ship at the bottom of it for the proportions.
Larnach Castle
Close to Dunedin on the South Island you might feel very Scottish. A lot of Scottish settlers live here. Dunedin is the Gaelic name for Edinburgh, by the way! So you will find the one and only castle of NZ there: Larnach Castle.
